There are multiple artists named Big Hat: 1) A dream pop band. 2) A blues rock band. 1) Big Hat was a dream pop band from Chicago, IL, United States, formed of Preston Klik (programming, melodica, trumpet, backing vocals, engineering, manager), Yvonne Bruner (vocals, lyrics, occasional tin whistle), Char Malloy Baum (electric violin, backing vocals) and Jim Stallman (percussion). An early incarnation of the band included Lorien (alto saxophone). The band was once described as "the most 4AD-like band not on 4AD" and, accordingly, their music is ethereal, passionate, haunting, quirky, and highly individual. They released a string of albums, many of which were recorded in the band's rehearsal space/studio at Section X (Preston's loft space). The band's name was inspired by a big polka-dot hat that Yvonne wore to an early photo shoot. 2) Big Hat is a blues rock band formed by Peter Stroud (guitar), Audley Freed (guitar), Keith Gattis (lead vocals, guitar), Robert Kearns (bass), Fred Eltringham (drums, percussion), Ike Stubblefield (Hammond B-3). They released their first EP in 2012. It was recorded in Atlanta and consists of four songs penned by Gattis, Stroud, and Freed, and one written by Eddie Vedder and Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam. Peter Stroud played with Sheryl Crow. Audley Freed played with Cry of Love, Black Crowes, Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Dixie Chicks). Keith Gattis is a country singer/songwriter, whose songs have been covered by a wide range of artists from George Jones to Kid Rock. Robert Kearns played with Cry of Love and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Fred Eltringham played with Wallflowers, Dixie Chicks, and K.D. Lang. Ike Stubblefield is a Hammond organ legend, whose live credits include Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart, among many others.
