Byla consists of Kevin Hufnagel (Relapse Records' instrumentalists Dysrhythmia, Gorguts) and Colin Marston (Dysrhythmia, Epicene/Troubleman recording artists Behold... the Arctopus, Crucial Blast Records experimental duo Infidel?/Castro!, Profound Lore black metal band Krallice, and Gorguts). Though their respective bands are more known for technical and abrasive music, Byla focuses on creating dream-like, rich atmospherics. Using guitar as it's primary sound source, Byla takes the listener from epic sound walls to late night, half-asleep drones. In 2005 they released their first self-titled CD on Translation Loss Records, a mainly quiet and tranquil experience. Released in the Fall of '07 was the album 'Viscera', a collaboration of sonic massiveness and density between Byla and vocalist Jarboe (formerly of Swans, and acclaimed solo artist). This album still retains the ambient aesthetic but with a much more intense atmosphere. Read more on Last.fm.
