Cleveland Wehle is a Virginia (US) based musician specializing in slow, natural and atmospheric ambient music. His music is calm and serene, reflecting his love and appreciation for the music of Samuel Barber, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Erik Satie, Vangelis, David Lynch and Brian Eno. The compositions convey a deeply personal, a reflective and contemplative affect upon the listener. Ambient Albums "Halcyon Daze - an Ambient Music Suite" [2011] (tracks: Wind in the Reeds, Lost Pleiad Suite, NGC 4414, Night Music, Autumn Sky, El Mirador, Before the Frost, Halcyon Daze) Review: Halcyon Daze, the latest release by Cleveland Wehle, takes you away to a series of beautiful, lush, other world environments. Halcyon, if a planet in some very distant universe, is a peaceful yet complex landscape with varied terrain. I imagined myself floating through the various scenes, across fields, beaches, lakes, woods, into caves to the top of mountains and of course in space looking down at this wondrous alien world. If you are into new age, soundscape music, Halcyon Daze will not disappoint. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up hearing it used in some future Sci-Fi movie, set in outer space. It's a gem. Cleveland Wehle is by far the best undiscovered artist in this genre. I can't wait to find out where he will take us next. --David Flood - Producer, WayCü Productions "The Crossing" [2010] (tracks: Inferi Dii, Still Pond, Praise of Turia, Do Androids Dream?, Metropolis, Three Sisters, The Crossing, Twilight Blue) Review: Music for a meditative traveler. Doesn't the best music transport us to another place, allowing an auditory and often visual involvement in a new or different experience? Doesn't it push or pull or guide, or simply immerse us in the sound? Cleveland Wehle's new album, The Crossing, certainly does. Mixing space, symphonic, and electronica soundscapes in gentle cascades, the music evokes a slow jazz line, a shimmering string, or smooth surfiness in turns. At times melodically simple, layers build slowly, sometimes leading to surprising complexity. The airy and dynamic phrasing is ideal for guided imagery. Careful listening to the medium length pieces (most of the 8 tracks are more than 8 minutes) is rewarded with glimpses of longer phrases and themes. But simply following this music where it leads provides all the benefit we can ask: a gentle journey to a contemplative and peaceful place. Highly recommended. --Mark Murphy "Pleasure Garden" [2010] (tracks: Beyond the Abyss, Pool of Memories, Ghosts of Dawn, Marine Snow, Pleasure Garden, Daybreak, Nymph Echo, Mad Man Smiles, Tears of Glass) Review: Immerse yourself in Pleasure Garden, an elegant ambient music series of deep feeling calm and relaxation. Haunting melodies of unspeakable beauty lead you through endless dreamscapes. Mystical as well as lyrical and melancholic, here you will find a nostalgic timeless and imaginative work. This 2010 recording of Wehle's is composed of 9 reflective yet visionary escapes intended for both the critical listener as well as background atmosphere. "Ambient Solitude & Contemplation" [2009] (tracks: Merciless Beauty, Limbo of Infants, reflections of Childhood, Uclet - Storm Watch, Sea of Antilles, Song for Mary Clare, Soft Machine, The Ride of Naturoids, Requiem for a Satellite, Iris Ballet, Saffron Meadow, Merciless Beauty - Reprise) Review: The album title is appropriate, as I found a richly textured ambient CD packed with contemplative and emotional pieces. Wehle cleverly incorporates a number of recurring themes throughout this work. These hypnotic passages appear and reappear, intertwined on a bed of slowly evolving organic soundscapes. There's the sensation of experiencing the subconscious while leaving it entirely up to the listener to interpret. The feelings these pieces evoke are likely to be as personal to the listener as they were to the artist. Strings rise and fall, sometimes accompanied by angelic choirs haunted by forgotten memories. I'm drawn to music which echoes times past. Though there are a number of contenders, for me the highpoint is 'Saffron Meadow' which opens with a gorgeous but mournful chorus only to be followed by a peaceful dream inducing set of recognizable variations. Slow, melancholy and evocative. This is a fine example of ambient music. For best effect, find a quiet spot to listen where you will not be disturbed. Enjoy. Vinnie S. - Musician “Dream Diary” [2009] (tracks: Mother and Child, Ladder of Angels, Moon Halo, Patagonia - Land of Song, Aureole, Pastoral Lament, Desert Fathers. Willow Glen, Into the Mist, When Gods Make Love, Soft Landing, When Gods Make Love - Reprise) Review: A gorgeous, contemplative work, Cleveland Wehle's Dream Diary is a rare find: ambient music that will appeal not only to fans of the genre, but also to anyone simply looking for a lovely soundtrack to their day. The sound is almost lush in its purity, evoking a range of emotional states, from quiet solemnity to a radiant joy. Weaving elements together in a delicate tapestry, the music pairs perfectly with meditation and relaxation. But more than simply background music, this CD offers a lovely accompaniment to enhance and enrich daily experience. --Sarah Altman, Writer (CA) “Solace” [2009] (tracks: Clare Island, Alice Blue, Indigo Sky, Hannah's Pond, Solace {Intro/Hymn/Return} Bird of Paradise, Fog Warning, Moon Garden) Review: The ten gorgeous tracks that comprise Cleveland Wehle's latest album are masterful and elegant soundscapes that double as meditations on spaces and places both mythic and familiar. Crafted from electronic instruments (piano, harp, strings) as well as sounds from the natural world (rainfall, birds, a distant harbor bell), SOLACE is intelligent ambient music that engages the ear as well as the mind. From the rippling chimes of Clare Island, to chords that extend like a horizon on Indigo Sky, to the lush romantic strings beneath Moon Garden, each song is densely layered yet deftly woven, leaving just enough silence between the sounds for a listener to fully immerse themselves in complex and graceful compositions like the title track, which is comprised of three sections (Intro, Hymn, and Return), and is a sweeping journey unto itself. Listening to Solace from inside a pair of headphones, one is transported, moved, and restored, leaving this listener to believe that the 'solace' Wehle's album offers is, in fact, the healing wisdom that music and meditation share: that through escape, we inevitably find home. --Jennifer Krasinski - Writer (CA) “Tranquility” [2008] (tracks: Moon Illusion, Oracle of Gaea, Lament for Art O’Leary, Voyage of Bran, Turquoise Ambassador) Review: Both majestic and soothlingly introspective, Cleveland Wehle's magnificent album Tranquility can only be described as a masterpiece of light ambience. The music on this exquisite release is restful and smooth, suitable for all kinds of listening, whether for meditation, work listening, sleep listening, or sheer listening enjoyment. Highly highly recommended. (June 04, 2009) --StillStream - Ambient radio station “Relax Deeply” [2007] (tracks: Anne’s Pleasure - Prologue, Blue Morning, Anne’s Pleasure - Extended) Earlier Albums (Contemporary jazz) Southern Exposure [2006] 24th Place [2005] "I'm listening [to Tranquility] for the first time on headphones and discovering the deep complexity of this music. Mr. Wehle manages a wonderful interplay of layers and textures without any of the clichés that are common in this genre. His sounds are warm, natural and soothing to the ear."
