Since forming in January 2004, Deviant UK has established itself as a fast-rising star of the European Industrial/Darkwave scene. The band unleashed the long-awaited and frankly outstanding debut album 'Barbed Wire Star' in October 2006, spawning the club hits 'Raptured Saints' and the hugely popular 'Access Denied!' and the eagerly anticipated second album - the aptly titled 'Very Bad Things' is in production. The band has performed at most of the major scene festivals including Wave Gotik Treffen, Nocturnal Culture Night, Black Celebration and Whitby Goth Weekend. In August 2008 they return to the outstanding Infest festival in the UK, hailed as 'easily the most requested UK act in the history of Infest'. The band is masterminded by singer, songwriter and devilish frontman Jay Smith ("a true showman with an ego the size of a planet" - Rocksound Magazine). Offering an arsenal of contemporary programming, soaring synthesisers, industrial percussion loops and cold vocals that coat each track in a layer of black ice, Smith's idiosyncratic song writing ensures that each anthem is loaded with commercial hooks. Indeed, this dark synth pop science is what makes Deviant UK stand out from their peers. As Smith says, 'there is no shame in writing a catchy tune.' This is a band that believes strongly in the value of the 'rock star'. As such, they are committed to a distinctive image and spectacular stage presentation commensurate with their music. Acknowledged to be an outstanding live act, their performance is crystallised by Jay Smith, engaging the audience head-on with a confidence that doesn't border on arrogance as much as stamp on it and then drown it in machiavellian charisma. With a commanding and malevolent stage presence, Deviant UK menace, compel and thrill you in equal toxic measures. In the current climate where manufactured pop is king, Deviant UK offers a dark and intriguing alternative that delivers both musically and visually. Smith's incisive and personal lyrical narratives catalogue deviant sex, twisted romance and betrayal all underpinned by a humour so black that it can only have come from having been there, seen it and done it. At every opportunity. Collaborations with Peter Spilles [Project Pitchfork] and electro giants Rotersand topped alternative charts across Europe and the band are showcasing new material that is bigger, darker and harder than ever before. In August and September 2009, Deviant UK undertook a four week US Tour supporting scene legends Project Pitchfork to rave reviews. Boasting a profile that continues to heighten exponentially, Deviant UK are proudly waving the flag for Britain in a scene that is dominated by mainland Europe and more than holding their own. The adventure continues...strap yourself in and enjoy the ride. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
