Hailing from what rural Queenslanders commonly refer to as ‘The Big Smoke’, Brisbane, Australia born “Evil Eddie” looks set to become the next big winner on the cult variety show “Bundamba’s Got Talent”. Having served as front man for the three time ‘Aria’ award nominated Hip Hop/Punk outfit ‘Butterfingers’ for the last nine years, “Evil Eddie” is now a solo man for the first time under his own moniker -while the rest of the Butterfingers team tend to the communally owned truffle farm. With an Apra award for “Most Performed Urban Work” already to his credit, “Evil” (as he is affectionately known by his ex-girlfriends), shows no signs of straying from his roots (figuratively speaking) and further hones the Hip Hop/Punk blend that riff raff around the world have come to know and moderately like. His debut album looks set to follow in the footsteps of artists such as Prince, Dave Grohl and that homeless guy in the Valley Mall, by recording all of the instrumentation entirely by himself, with the exception of drums, ‘cause he’s way too unco to do anything remotely rhythmical with more than one limb at a time. After lying to his friends, colleagues and family about overcoming his long spell of writers block, “Evil Eddie” is now forced to produce something that resembles music before his life becomes a large pit of despair from which there is no return. The first single “Queensland” off of the highly anticipated debut album (tentatively titled “Welcome To Flavour Country”) has already seen critics and friends alike shocked and appalled at the lyrical content and generally brazen attitude that comes with having rock star style delusions of grandeur. The “Queensland” single is due for release Nov 5th 2010 on the self-owned “Bewilderbeats” label (distributed by MGM) followed by the album in early 2011. A clip for “Queensland” (directed by Dave Barker) is also in production but contains such lude adult concepts that it’s unlikely to be seen anywhere outside of Eddie’s house. The “Evil Eddie” live show also makes it’s debut this year with an all star Brisbane based backing band boasting backbone members of ‘Butterfingers’, ‘Laneous and the Family Yah’, ‘Bang Bang Boss Kelly’, ‘The Disables’ and ‘Spitfireliar’. Whether it proves to be a raging success or an epic failure the ‘Evil Eddie’ experience promises to be something of a spectacle for all who are there to witness it.
