Five Star Prison Cell are a four-piece band from Melbourne, Australia, whose music is generally labelled as tech metal or math rock. They are known for their use of unusual time signatures, dissonant guitar riffs, and a vocal approach that explores many different avenues and styles. INSANITY EXCURSION: After receiving a clean bill of mental health in late 2010, Australia's first and truly unique tech-metal band FIVE STAR PRISON CELL disbanded after releasing 3 albums of the most sonically intense, technically brain-squeezing, un-danceable music the Australian public had ever heard. Well, after 3 years of rest & tranquilizers, a team of psychiatrists were flown in from the 4 corners to realize the therapy sessions simply didn't take, and it was deemed for everyone's sake -the insanity must continue!!! FIVE STAR PRISON CELL exploded onto the Australian metal scene in 2004 bringing audiences something unique and completely different; yet at the same time drowning amidst a musical climate where nu-metal was just leaving it's last stink trails, and a new crop of kids with fancy new doos "breaking it down" in every song were straightening their first fringes. FSPC'S live shows were an event not to be missed, and after relentlessly touring this country & abroad with their peers, close friends and international heroes over a period of almost 7 years to a mostly confused and trend-driven public, the band finally and inevitably imploded. For their fans and their own sake, the band has never tried to "dumb it down" for want of more recognition or mass appeal and this method will continue today. The music they create is written purely by the band FOR the band - no gimics or bullshit. And with even the few demos written for album number 4 sounding more savage than anything they've previously written to date, we could all be in for a horribly wild ride... Read more on Last.fm.
