The group was formed in the summer of 1993 at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute near Simi Valley, California. The members of HOLLYWOOD KLEZMER serve as ambassadors of Jewish culture by preserving and sharing authentic Old World Jewish music in a contemporary society. In addition to perpetuating traditional Yiddish culture, the musicians have created new works by incorporating the klezmer fusion of American jazz and Yiddish swing into their repertoire. In March, 1999, HOLLYWOOD KLEZMER gave the United States premiere performance of Sid Robinovitch's "Suite for Klezmer Band and Orchestra" with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony.
