Inga & Anush

Inga and Anush Arshakyans (Ինգա և Անուշ) are Armenian sisters and folk singers from Yerevan best known for representing Armenia in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with their song Jan-Jan. They finished in 10th place with 92 points. Anush (born December 24, 1980) and Inga (born March 18, 1982) both studied music at S. Aslamazyan Music School. In 2000 they entered the State Song Theater of Armenia, performing national and ethnic songs. They embarked on a concert tour in the US in September 2002 with the soloists from the State Song Theater. In March 2003, Inga and Anush performed solo concerts at the Alex Theatre. At the same time their debut album, We and Our Mountains, was released. Invitations to perform in New York, Toronto, Argentina and Paris followed. In November of 2003 they left the theatre group and began a career of their own. In 2004, their rendition of the folk song Tamzara was announced as the winner of festival "Golden Lyre 2004". The song also won the Tigran Naghdalyan award in the framework of the “National Music Award” in December 2005. It was later included on their second album Tamzara, in 2006. And following the album release, they again toured the USA as well as Tehran, London, Paris, Russia and Germany. Inga and Anush's third studio album Heartbeat of my Land was released November 2009. The album's single Menq Enq Mer Sarerệ, was selected as the 2009 song for the annual Armenian Telethon, under the name "Our Shushi", with the duo also performing at the televised show on November 26, 2009. The Arshakyan Sisters were chosen by the Armenian public on 14 February 2009, to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 to be held in Moscow, Russia, with the song Jan-Jan. They successfully qualified for the final on May 16th 2009 where they finished in 10th place with 92 points. Although it was Armenia's least successful performance at Eurovision, it gave the country their fourth succssive Top 10 placing. Anush Arshakyan was born on December 24, 1980 in Yerevan. She studied and graduated from S. Aslamazyan music school, class of piano. In 1994, she gained the first place and was awarded audience prize in "Sonorous voices" competition that took place in Omsk city. In this period, she started promoting her activity as composer/author. Later on, her creations had great success. As soon as she graduated from the music school in 1997-2001, she entered and graduated A. Babajanyan music collage, class of piano. In 1999, she made her debut as a soloist together with Armenia State Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. Since 2001 to 2005, she has studied and graduated from Yerevan State Conservatory, jazz-vocal class. Inga Arshakyan was born on March 18, 1982, in Yerevan. She also graduated from S. Aslamazyan music school and A. Babajanyan music college, class of violin in 1997. Parallel with her studies she was working in the G. Achemyan ensemble of violinists. She went on tours with the ensemble to the Armenia provinces. In 1998, Inga joined her sister and together they promoted their activities. Not only duets, but also arias, where the violin plays a great role, are present in the repertoire. In 2002 graduating the class of the strings of music college following her sister she entered Yerevan State Conservatory, jazz vocal class and graduated it in 2005. Read more on Last.fm.
