iordache was born in 1967 in Bucharest, Romania, as Mihai Iordache, and began playing saxophone in 1990, under the influence of Charlie Parker, Lee Konitz and Ornette Coleman, whom he tried to imitate. Around 2001 after an event which changed some of his ideas about life he started writing his own music. At first it was performed alongside the Sun Ra material by the Outer Space Five (with Sorin Romanescu on guitar, Vlaicu Golcea on bass....and any good drummer they could find). Then as his tunes were replacing the old playlist he re-named the band "iordache". Around that time he met Tom Smith, an outstanding trombone player and big band director who had come to Bucharest as a Fullbright scholar to create and rehearse a big band within the Academy of Music. He managed to talk Mr.Smith into joining a three-hours recording session. Then he rehearsed briefly with the big band, shortly before it disbanded. He started using the name "iordache" (no capital letters) as a stage name, for reasons having to do with his fascination with anonymity. His first album as a leader - "friday - featuring Tom Smith"- has been released by A&A Records in 2003. The second one is called "dissipatin'" and was released in 2005, on the same label. Since 2003 he is also the saxophonist of rock band Kumm, from Cluj, with whom he has recorded three albums: "Angels & Clowns" (2005), "Different Parties" (2006) and "Far From Telescopes" (2009). In recent years he also began producing homemade CDs, documenting his live performances with his bands and other musicians. iordache' s latest album "One Life Left" inspired by Pac-Man has been released in March 2012. It features Petre Ionutescu on trumpet, Lucian Nagy on tenor and soprano saxophones, guitarists Dan Alex Mitrofan and Toni Kuhn - who also plays keyboards, bassist Utu Pascu and drummer Tavi Scurtu. It has been recorded in Timisoara, Romania. All albums can be listened to and bought at the iordache their offical website, www.iordache.ro Read more on Last.fm.
