NEW album 'Re.covers' now available on itunes and www.pacificrecords.com. J Scott Bergman was born in New Jersey and raised in Southern California. His words are often inspired by personal events and spiritual philosophy. Musically Influenced by the likes of Nick Drake, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, and The Beatles, J Scott Bergman continues to evolve with mysteriously evocative songs of love and hope. The album "From Here" represents the beginning of a breakthrough. Subtle but powerful, it is a happy record that burns through its early dark disguise. A musical reflection of personal revelation, this self-produced disc took its place as the third installment in a trilogy of solo records that began as a personal catharsis; after the demise of J Scott Bergman's former band, SOMETHING IRIS. The next album, "Maybes Are Fading," is a collection of beautiful songs reflective of lost loves and the turns experienced on life's unfolding journey . There are songs of poignant breakthroughs and happy surrender. A combination of violins, modern singer/songwriter acoustic rock, and a unique smokey edge on a new folk sound: J Scott Bergman was again backed up by leading industry musicians and recieved critical acclaim. In 2002 he toured Northern Europe. He placed as a finalist in the 2003 Acoustic Live competition in Los Angeles and has won songwriting awards from The John Lennon Songwriting and Great American Song contests. In addition, in 2004 his work placed as a runner-up in the VH1 sponsored Song Of The Year contest. He also won "Outstanding Achievement In Songwriting Award" in the Great American Song Contest. The song "Wonderful Thing" spent a month in the top 20 most played singles on XM Radio's Station 52: from September through October 2005. At times soulful and sonically more dynamic than its predecessors, the latest album "Ours Is The Time," deals with a cast of characters in songs that illustrate that no matter how diverse the human experience, we all share a common core. Whether it be the non-fictional character in 'Milton's Offer' reflecting on his long life well spent or the rock icon in the song 'Icon' whining about his fans overanalyzing his work, or the homeless plight imagined in 'Lost Souls Communion', the writer is acknowledging the range of human experience. With pop sensibilities in full-force and guest appearances by members of Beck and Alanis Morissette's touring bands, the album covers a breadth of aural landscapes: a thoughtfully woven tapestry of folk, modern rock and bluesy jazz. The arrangements are solid yet purposefully sparse: letting the acoustic vibe and distinctive voice of the artist shine through. Released in 2008, "Ours Is The Time" is available at CDBaby.com and itunes. A four star review at European online music site, Melodic.net, as well as its artist of the week for the 6th week of 2008 started the year on a positive note.
