Moscow band J-Lobster was formed in 1993 and pretty soon began doing shows all over the city. Energized and dedicated live presence earned them a dedicated following in the club scene. J-Lobster’s music was a curios blend of indie-rock and funk and heavily relied on syncopated rhythms and off-kilter chord progressions. The line-up went through various changes, until in 2004 the band was finally revived as a four piece. That year marked the new beginning in the long and adventurous life of J-Lobster. Debut album entitled «Oi Lucky Universe!» was released on an independent record label “Indie-Go!” in 2006 and included 14 of the strongest and catchiest tracks mostly taken from the vaults. Almost immediately, the band (now branded J-Lobster for vague karma-related reasons) started working on the second studio album, “Mindless Pleasures”. Totally in tune with current guitar music trends new songs are all about sexy groove and unrestrained passion. Mighty riffs are spiced up with quirky electronic patterns, decadent lyrics clash with poignant melodies. This new album shows the maturity of the band in songwriting and sound. There are nervous rock anthems (“Exp. Date”, “Dip Ship”, “St. Elmortality”), melancholic ballads (“Low 1”, “Glass Surface”), post-funk blowouts (“Freakwalkin’”, “Vixen Call”) and an epic psychedelic coda (“Final Cycle/Rocket Sunset”). Dick Valentine from the sexed-up American combo Electric Six makes a guest appearance on “Nuclear Cowboy”, a lush Cold war-themed pop monster. On a couple of tracks you’ll hear the very feminine voice of Tutta Larsen, ex-singer of the band and a notorious Russian TV hostess. No doubt, this monolithic record will enwrap the listener into the ongoing stream of rhythms, hooks and emotions. Read more on Last.fm.
