The original group: Joe Bennett (lead vocal, lead guitar), Wayne Arthur (upright bass,), Howard "Sparky" Childress (guitar), and Jimmy Denton (drums). In October 1957, their hit song, “Black Slacks”, charted No. 17 on the Billboard Charts and stayed in that position for more than four consecutive months. “Penny Loafers and Bobby Socks” also charted that same year.
