Kristin Allen-Zito is songwriter from Bellingham, WA, well known for being the lead singer of the electro-punk band The Trucks. However she is also a solo artist whose songs are rooted in the folk idiom, strongly influenced by pop and indie-rock. Her first full length CD, helium, was released by Clickpop Records in July of 2004. Her long awaited second solo CD The Atlas was released November 16th, 2010. She has played shows around the Pacific Northwest for years, and has also made several regional tours of the West coast, Southwest, Texas, Indiana, and New York. From her label bio : "Her debut album, helium on Clickpop Records, is a departure from her folk music roots into a realm that could best be described better with words like electric, indie, pop, and straight up rockin. With great song writing at the core of her music, her brief stint in the world of rock and roll shows and smoky bars has given her music an edge and an oftentimes brutal honesty. At times quaint, sometimes brash, helium is a melding of roots, rock, and pop. Irresistibly hooky pop melodies turn unexpected corners. The sounds of a theremin drift quietly behind an acoustic ballad. A saw solo, a wash of guitar and drum timbres, a range of vocal style and technique that is as refreshing as it is intoxicating." Her new album “The Atlas” features songs that seamlessly blend Kristin’s folk background with her pop sensibilities such as the self-titled title track “The Atlas” as well as the epic ballad “The Siren and The Sailor”. Helping her round out her songs is an array of great guest session musicians including legendary musicians: Larry Knechtel on keyboards (Bread, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys) and Kristina Olsen on slide gtr (solo, Michelle Shocked) as well as Dylan Rieck (The Crying Shame, Prosser), Michael Harris (Idiot Pilot), Rich Canut (Black Eyes & Neckties), Mark Detrick (Rooftops, Lands Farther East), Sarah Jerns (Pan Pan, Presidents of the United States of America), Jenni Potts, Jordan Rain (Yogoman Burning Band) and many more. Kristin's live performances are often solo, but sometimes feature Rich Canut accompanying her on guitar and saw. Rich recorded and co-produced Kristin's first album, and is known for recording many other Bellingham bands, as well as being an active member of several of them (notably The Wastelanders and Black Eyes & Neckties). Kristin is also a founding member and songwriter of popular electro punk band The Trucks. Before releasing her solo material, she put out an duet album with her sister Jen titled Jen and Kristin, which can be found as Jen and Kristin Allen-Zito or Jen and Kristin. Both Jen and Kristin grew up playing music with their mother, folk singer Linda Allen. http://www.kristinallenzito.com/ http://www.clickpoprecords.com/artists/kristinallenzito/ Read more on Last.fm.
