In 2008, they changed their name to Steel Panther. Before that, they were known as Metal Skool, an 80's glam metal parody and cover band which performs regular weekly shows in Hollywood and San Diego, then later Las Vegas. Originally formed as Danger Kitty, their first "claim to fame" was in a Discover Card commercial under that name and released a single for the song 'Love Rocket'. They changed their name to Metal Shop, and began selling out regular weekly shows in the Hollywood and San Diego Beach areas. In 2003, the band released their first album, "Hole Patrol". The album was covered in perverse and funny lyrics, including comedy routines between tracks. With only a limited release, it quickly sold out. Problems with management led to the band dropping the Metal Shop name, as the management owned the rights to it. Metal Skool became their new name. The band continues to sell out weekly shows in Hollywood and Los Angeles clubs, with occasional celebrities making surprise appearances such as Drew Carey and Jani Lane (ex-Warrant). 2006 saw a re-release of the "Hole Patrol" album, with a change. The final track was called "Metal Shop", and since that wasn't their name any more, they replaced it with a cover of Ian Hunter's "Cleveland Rocks", chosen due to being the theme song for "The Drew Carey Show". Also released in 2006 was a DVD, which included their first video, for "Fat Girl (Thar She Blows)". In 2008, the band changed their name to Steel Panther, and their CD and DVD were discontinued. The band plans to continue in the same style as before, just with a name change. Read more on Last.fm.
