Hailing from Nara Prefecture, Japan, monocism formed in March 2005, after a short period of collaborations. They are a duo consisting of producer and composer Tomoya Matsuura (松浦友也, vocals and guitar) and guitar teacher Yoshiaki Kitamura (北村嘉章; guitar), with support members Satoshi Kamiegawa (上江川 聡 AKA A.C.R.kammy; drums) and Goro Ouchi (大内悟郎 AKA goro-ohuchi; bass.) Their style borrows elements from shoegaze, post-rock, math rock, and noise. Their name is a made-up word derived from the Japanese word for "object", "mono". It means "a sudden impulse to express artifacts and scenery through music." monocism's first release was an eponymous, self-released mini album (monocism), released on June 6th, 2006, their first one-man live. Its follow-up release, 初季 (Ubuki), was a mini-album published in September of the following year. They also participated in multiple compilations; they covered the Sex Pistols' "Submission" in 2007 and participated twice in the Play For Japan compilation albums (vol.7 and 2012 vol.9.) Very little is known about their recent activities, as of early 2015; they may have disbanded silently. Their last known work was a cover of Portishead's [song artist="Portishead"]Pedestal[/song] for the Portishead tribute Helping Hand -Tribute To Portishead in 2013. Matsuura went on to form two solo projects, Nels and Sourin and is currently also a photographer: https://www.facebook.com/tomoya.matsuura.work Read more on Last.fm.
