There are at least 4 bands under this name: (1) Moving Pictures were a rock music group formed in Sydney, Australia in the early 1980s. The group was comprised of Alex Smith (vocals), Garry Frost (guitar), Andrew Thompson (saxophone), Charlie Cole (keyboards), Ian Lees (bass) and Paul Freeland (drums). The band had several hit singles and albums in their native Australia, including the single "What About Me", which remained at number one for two months in 1982. Its success led them to America where it also became a hit, reaching #29 on the Billboard singles chart. In fact, "What About Me" stayed in the Hot 100 for such a long time that it managed to make Billboard's year-end Hot 100 list for 1983, at #88 [1] - a rare feat for a single with such a low peak position. They contributed one song, "Never", to the Footloose movie soundtrack but were unable to capitalize on their initial success. They returned to Australia, and achieved a few minor hits, but their career quickly faded. (2) Chity and Carlos are joyous indie-kids in a glass house. Saccharine? Wimpish? Squeaky clean? Twee? . Probably. In any case Moving Pictures first single received a great deal of attention from the media. Mark Radcliffe (BBC Radio One) give them constant airplay. Their debut album "Without friends" was clearly influenced by Sarah Records, The Go-Betweens, Mc Carthy, Bridge, France Gall, Brilliant Corners, Bodines, New Order, Cardigans, Françoise Hardy... Taste their cutesy-pie records! Despite the hostile environment that pop bands face, there is a legion of acts with inmutable convictions and creative sparks. The international indie scene shows different bands from distant places as Shoestrings, Cessna, Club 8, Jumprope .... with similar horizons, songwriting patterns,life-styles and musical ears. Even with no hit singles they have a strong loyal audience awaiting their sporadic concerts and records. Their unpretentiousness, antiseptic image and sincerety are incontestable. Moving Pictures is not a duo. It's an entity. (3) Moving Pictures is a post rock band from New Hampshire consisting of Ben Rogers (drums), Jentri Jollimore (keyboard, vocals) and Randy Patrick (guitars, vocals). Their first album, "Age of Reason" was released in 2008. (4) A folk rock band that hails out of LA and is mained by the Dewberry brothers. They released one EP, 5AM and later changed their name to the Cold Violets to avoid further confusion. Read more on Last.fm.
