New Days Delay was founded in 1999 in the German town of Bremen. The original lineup consisted of Christoph Curth (guitars, programming), Matthias Dopp (bass) and Insa Knapp (vocals). A short demo E.P. ("Plastic Faces") was recorded at Alien Style Studios with the help of Rolf Kirschbaum (White Rose Transmission, Fehlfarben The Pachinko Fake etc.). Armed with their newly recorded demo, they immediately began playing gigs in Austria, Denmark, and throughout Germany. They quickly drew a strong fan base and soon found themselves playing larger festivals alongside bands such as Cinema Strange, Ikon, and Passion Play. In the winter of 2001, Matthias decided to part ways with the rest of the band to pursue his own project, Avaritia. It was around this same time that new member Achim Dressler was picked up to play bass. These lineup changes pushed New Days Delay away from their previous 1990's Brit-goth sound and towards their current unique, exciting style. Using the accessibility of Achim's recording studio, the band began cranking out scads of new material and continued playing a multitude of live gigs. A newer, tighter demo E.P. ("I Survived New Days Delay") was also recorded - still with no live drummer. In 2003 the drum machine problem was finally solved with the addition of Volker Kindt taking over as the band's new bassist. This reassignment of members made it possible for Achim to take over his intended role as the new drummer. They played gigs in the UK, Slovakia, Netherlands and Germany. After lots of discussion Christoph Curth left the band in autumn 2005. In spring 2006, Volker Kindt left his place as bassist to Norm and started playing organs, synthesizer and second guitar, while Dennies Lachenmajer was picked up to play lead guitar. It was now possible to perform on stage without using backing tracks. The sound of New Days Delay falls somewhere in between Gothic, Surf Rock, Dark Wave, Post-Punk, and New Wave. Their material tends to vary dramatically from song to song, while still holding on to the same common thread. Some songs boast of classic Death Rock tradition, while others seem to embrace the minimal synth sound that Germany is known for. Insa, the band's charismatic front woman, tends to teeter back and forth, singing some tracks in English and others in her native German. Read more on Last.fm.
