London based musician Peter Conway is an artist upsetting all the right apple carts and is as bright, heretic and unusual as any great artist these shores have produced. Less of the reference points and more of the passion, less of the 'I know where this is going' and more of the unexpected. His voice has a dark, brooding, intensity and when he sings it feels like you are holding something close to your heart. You will not want to let go. "For those who follow London’s live music scene closely enough, Peter Conway’s intimate gig was always going to be a special night. It was no surprise that the rising acoustic star chose Filthy MacNasty’s as the venue, with its reputation for hosting the best acoustic and literary events in London, long cemented by a string of alternative heroes, who not only spend quality drinking time inside the bar, but very often end up working behind it. From Shane McGowan to Pete Doherty and the effortlessly cool Johnny Depp, the eclectic crowd and experimental ethos have helped turned this North London ‘whiskey café’ into a world famous Boho hangout, where Peter clearly felt at home. Musically, he inhabits a world somewhere between Peter Gabriel, Tom Waits and the freedom encapsulated in artists like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Lyrically, however, he is much harder to define, partly due to his exceptional talent of touching the nerves and soul of those clever enough to understand. The strength of his vocal talent was highlighted at the start of the night, when he dismissed the notion of a microphone, projecting his soulful, harmonious voice effortlessly around the room to a charged and captivated crowd.
