Publiners is a band from Brønnøysund, Nordland, Norway. Their music is inspired by different kinds of folk, folk-rock and folk-inspired music. The band themselves has labelled their music "Folk'n'roll." Publiners has excisted since1997, originally doing mainly cover versions of irske folk songs and ballads, yet under the strong influence of the band members' backgrunds as rock musicians. Ever since the beginning Publiners has been writing their own music. The first couple of years with the lyrics being in English. Their first album, "Folk'n'roll" realeased 2003, contained only two of the bands own songs, in English. In 2004 Publiners decided to put their energy into making more of their own songs, and to start writing lyrics in Norwegian.This transition culminated into the album "Heim" (translates "Home" or "Going home") relased 2005. This release marked a turningpoint in the bands career. Since 2005 Publiners has experienced somwhat of a success, as each new album has given them a bit more approval, both from the ciritcs and from the audience. Publiners is still influenced by folk music and folk-rock, but the cross-over elements from other kinds of music are ever more visible. Strong vocal harmonies has always been a part of their style. Among references made by critics are Norwegian bands Vamp, Hellbillies and DDE. Swedish band Nordman has also been mentioned, in addition to pure pop and rock references like Tre små Kinesere, Postgirobygget and Uriah Heep (!!). Songs like "Maja" (2005), "Toft" (2008) and "Bær me over" has been on heavy rotation on NRK P1, Norways biggest radio channel. Among other best known songs are "God natt" (2008), "Fritt Fram" (2008) and "Te Stein" (2009). Publiners has earned a reputation as great live performers, and is still touring Norway on a yearly basis. A live recording from Parkteateret, Oslo, is set to be broadcasted on NRK P1, october 29th 2010. Album releases: Folk'n'roll (2003). In English.
