The Broken Vinyl Club were a 60s influenced mod-pop band, formed in 2008, Aberdare, South Wales. The band's line-up was Scott Howells (vocals, guitar), Justin Beynon (guitar, vocals), Jamie Taylor (bass guitar, vocals) and Meirion Townsend (drums, vocals). Townsend was replaced by former Keys drummer Twm Champagne after leaving the band in early 2013. The band continued to gig throughout the year but decided to call it a day at the end of that year, playing their final gig at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff on 23 November 2013. They were signed to Acid Jazz Records after former Creation Records boss Alan McGee announced that, "after seeing the band, that they could be massive". Acid Jazz got in touch with the band to ask to use their song I Want You Girl as part of a mod compilation called Hipsters 2. Subsequently, the label asked to hear all of the band's recorded songs to date and afterwards, signed them to a 3 album deal. Their self-titled debut album was released in October 2011. The band were known for their close harmonies and jangly guitar sound and have been compared to bands such as The Beatles, The Who, The Small Faces and The Kinks. They were also regarded as one of the British new breed of mod bands, alongside The Moons, The Rifles, Miles Kane et al. Read more on Last.fm.
