The Resplendents

Leeds based 8-piece The Resplendents formed in 2005 out of a desire to make new music the old way. With rich vocal harmonies, twin saxes and a rhythm section inspired by the funk and soul of Detroit & Memphis the band are unique amongst their contemporaries. Live performances mix the passion of James Brown, the spirit of Dexy’s, and the big sound of Arcade Fire whilst also embracing a more tender sound inspired by Burt Bacharach and Jimmy Webb. "The Resplendents are a rare thing these days... Combining the raw energy of Ike and Tina with the laid back vibe of Otis Redding, it makes a nice treat from the usual brand of Libertines wannabes." The Big Issue The Resplendents released their debut record, the Quetzal EP, in March to great reviews. Opening with the instant 3-minute pop of ‘Another spin of the wheel’, through the soulful ‘Better than this’ to the unmistakable floor shaking sound of ‘Fall out with the in-crowd’, it was "made for listening to whilst sipping rum and cokes in the sunshine" according to No-Title Magazine. “Band of the night, however, must surely be The Resplendents.
