There have been at least three bands called The Alps bands over the last few years. See below. 1.The Alps is a small group of experimental pyschedelic musicians from San Francisco, California, featuring Jefre Cantu-Ledesma of Tarentel. Following a handful of small-scale releases, their debut studio recorded album III was released in July 2008 on the Type label and received wide critical acclaim. Early 2009 saw The Alps release two more very limited editions that were highly praised, A Path Through The Sun & A Path Through The Moon, both on the Root Strata label. They are currently recorded another album for release on Type, and a 12" for the Mexican Summer label. 2. The Alps are a South London based guitar pop indie band who found moderate success in the mid noughties. Currently hibernating, half the band can be found working on side project Skinny Lister. The band have not split but are taking an extended break from gigging and recording as a four piece. The Alps debut single 'World At War' claimed Gigwise.com's single of the week - "A tale of yearning for that elusive loved one, it's surprisingly optimistic and stylish stuff." The band were supported by Radio 1 and Xfm playing two live sessions in 2005 before appearing at the Reading festival on the same bill as Graham Coxon, BMRC and The Futureheads. The Alps debut album 'Something I Might Regret' was produced by Dave Allen (The Cure, Depeche Mode) released in 2008 and the band have been dormant since early 2009. A best of collection of unreleased material is pencilled for release summer 2010. 3. The Alps used to be a New York-based band with tracks such as "Loving the Letdown" but are now defunct.
