The Proov

The Proov represents Hip Hop, from a jazzy, dusty, funk feel to electro resonance. There’s MC Gumshoe, the energenic one. The vortex when it comes to ideas. There’s MC CeeMajor, that laid back dude. The raw funk extortioner. On their excursions they are joined by the funky producers Colt & L.Geronimo & the magnificent DJ Optimus. Currently recording the album ‘Off-The-Cuff’, set for release in the spring of 2011. More: CeeMajor (Cor Giesing, 1975) founded The Proov together with a couple of residents from Leeuwarden (NL). The Proov dispersed a bit in 2001 and consists nowadays of the MC's Cee Major & Gumshoe (Sven Willemsen, 1977) plus DJ SDub (Sander Schalk, 1977). The Proov no longer travels with a complete live band, but represents on the old school tip - with mics and turntables. They work closely together with producers Colt & L.Geronimo. Between the releases from The Proov demo 'Speakerroom' (1997), singles as 'What I'm Not' (1999), Feel The Heat (Soul Relation, 2000) 'Nebula' (Unexpected Records, 2003), 'Two Entropies' (imPROOVment Records, 2003/2004) and their EP/album debut 'Traditions' (Soul Relation, 2000) plus their live CD Reality Check (Soul Relation, 2002) and their latest album 'Battle Mode'(imPROOVment Records, 2005) they played as the opening-act for Organized Konfusion, The Alkaholiks, Large Professor, etcetera and represented festivals like Double Talk (with Black Star and Company Flow) and Back To Planet Rock (with Afrika Bambataa and Extince), Noorderslag, Lowlands, Drum-Rhythm, Uitmarkt and North Sea Jazz. They rocked places as Paradiso, De Melkweg, 013 and crossed boarders to Prague. On television they could be seen at VPRO's De Jong in Uitvoering and NPS' Paradiso Live, the latter along with Soul legend Leon Ware (producer/co-writer of Marvin Gaye's 'I want you' LP), Carleen Anderson (Young Disciples) and Michael Franti (Spearhead). The videos from Feel the Heat, Nebula, Two Entropies & The Ultimate are/were shown at music channels as: MTV Raw & New, TMF, The Box Urban Vibes, The Fifth Element (Czech) and VPRO's www.3voor12.nl. Over the years The Proov work was nominated for the Heiniken Crossover Award, Pop Disque la Semaine (2 times), single of the week at VPRO & various compilations.
