After Thomas Erak's band Tribune broke up near the end of high school, he and Mike Munro formed The Thirty Years War with Tim Ward and Andrew Forsman. Under this name, they self-recorded and -released two EPs in 2002 - Martyrs Among the Casualties and Live at the Paradox. However, as they were going to begin recording again, Mike (who is older than the others in the band) left the band due to work commitments. The remaining band members went on under the name The Fall of Troy, where they are now. Stylistically, The Thirty Years War is fairly similar to The Fall of Troy in that both bands feature unconventional song structuring, prog-rock-like guitar work, and dueling singing/screaming vocals. In fact, several songs by The Thirty Years War would later appear on The Fall of Troy releases. However, The Fall of Troy is, as the band readily admits, a more complex progression of the same sound. Then in 2010 the band announced that they were finished making songs together. so they all ended up going their separate ways. Thomas went of and formed a new band called "Just Like Vinyl" also joining the band "Chiodos". Andrew went off and started making some of his own music. Frank went a started a group called "Chineke". The Fall Of Troy have resurfaced since breaking up in 2010 with some good news for fans. They began a reunion tour that started with the promise of just three shows in December 27th, 28th, and 29th at Red 7 in Austin, TX. Each night would feature a full performance of a different album from front to back. the official update posted by the band: "Well well well... How is everyone? We know it has been quite some time since you've heard from us... But we agree it's about time we get together and play some of these songs that mean the world to us, and invite anyone who wants to come. We will be performing at Red 7 in Austin, TX on December 27th, 28th, and 29th. To whom it may concern : The line-up will be as follows. (December 27th - Self-Titled performed in its entirety) (December 28th - Doppelgänger performed in its entirety) (December 29th - Manipulator performed in its entirety) V.I.P. packages available through Red 7 in Austin, TX on Dec. 25 (limited!) We love you all, we really hope that you come out and celebrate what should be 3 very special nights. X0X0, Tim, Thomas, and Andrew" During the VIP reunion show, the band announced they would continue making music in 2014 by releasing a free album. On January 20th, 2014, The Fall of Troy posted a video on their Facebook page. In the description of the video, the band stated the following: "We are nothing without you, and that is why we are going to do things differently this time around. We're going to go directly to you guys, no more middle men, all DIY. We're booking our own shows, where you want to see us. We are recording our own music, and we doing it all for you, and for free. Consider yourself our label, consider yourself our booking agent. We play where you want us to play, and we make music for you." Feb. 22 2014 the group played The Showbox at the Market in Seattle and during the two hour set Thomas Erak confirmed work on a new album. On December 9th 2014, Thomas Erak announced that he had left Chiodos to focus on The Fall of Troy's upcoming album. On January 30th 2015, the band celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Equal Vision debut Doppelganger by playing the album front to back at El Corazon in Seattle. Followed by a complete second set, during which Thomas explained that this would be their last show of 2015 and that they were going away to record their new album. Read more on Last.fm.
