Waiwan, which happends to rhyme with Taiwan, is already a regular feature on the UK circuit, playing nights such as Plastic People in London, as well as Electric Chair and Counter Culture in Manchester. He has also toured with Giles Peterson and Eddie Piller, the founders of recording label 'Acid Jazz'. His style has largely been influenced by the likes of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and James Brown and can be accurately described as "nu-jazz", a herbal blend of jazz textures with funk and electronic overlays. Waiwan's first album 'Distraction', released on Autonomy/ EMI, was an uplifting fusion of hip hop, dance and electronica coupled with various jazz insrumentalisms. He also turned his hand to remixs and re-edits, working with Chari Chari on 'Blackshine', with Karova for 'Sunshine' and with Magic Number on 'That Day'. Not one to be confined to the DJ Booth, Waiwan has also been heavily involved on the production side, producing some splendid tracks for the 'Earth Project' and 'Future Sounds of Jazz'. New material is scheduled to be released later this year. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
