One of the country's best-loved live acts to emerge from the recent burgeoning Kiwi Music scene, “pumping rock-roots, reggae, soul-ska, dub” A sound driven by the unified groove of six core members joined intently in the musical collective. A fusion of the authentic roots styles combined with a contemporary approach to creating conscious music for the soul. Renown for their 'cranking and skanking' live shows, the band never fails to ignite and connect with the crowd and they have become firm favourites at many nationwide outdoor festivals in NZ including Splore, Queenstown Winter Festival, Soundsplash and Rhythm & Vines ALBUMS The debut long player from dDub, Awake at Dawn, is the culmination of several years of developing the dDub style, and the realisation of a long-held dream. 'This album is a milestone in the dDub journey' says lead vocalist Derek Browne. 'To finally have the songs recorded and set in time for people to actually take away with them is fantastic.' The first single lifted from the album, The Flow, received airplay nationwide, with the video being nominated for the Juice TV awards. The second single, Comfort, is currently being released to radio and Music TV. The song Give Up Your Love has become an extensively played kiwi track, with the video winning 'Best Independantly Produced Clip' at the 2004 Juice TV Awards. Medicine Man is the much anticipated second album from one of Aotearoa's best-loved live rock/roots acts dDub, and includes hits Hesitate No and Making My Way Home. The songs are a culmination of two years writing, touring and extensive road testing. The album was recorded in-between a busy 12 month schedule of 56 NZ and Australian tour dates and numerous summer festival appearances such as the 13,000 strong crowd at the Rhythm and Vines festival '08. Already Hesitate No, the first single from Medicine Man, has attracted the attention of The Edge, Juice TV, C4's Select where it has been featured for the last 4 weeks, Kiwi Fm's Top 10, has been playlisted nationwide on all student radio frequencies and has been included on the NZ on Air celebratory 100th Hit Disc. Mastering for Medicine Man was by the legendary Don Bartley in Sydney (Silverchair, Missy Higgins, Evermore). Medicine Man was mixed and engineered by Singapore based Stu Newman (Stellar, Gregg Johnson). Newman was also a major influence in the sound of dDub's debut album Awake at Dawn which garnered 4 and 5 star reviews in NZ, Australia and the USA, and sold over 5000 copies locally. dDub are currently working on a third studio album and released its first single, We Are The Ones, in December 2009. LIVE dDub Live Show - Review 'This all brings me back to dDub. There was electricity in the air at the gigs. A feeling that we were all on the edge of something great. We were seeing a band that was about to be everybody else’s favorite band. You couldn’t help but move, and be moved. They ruled the stage and for those few hours we felt like we were all living out the same life.' -Scott Kennedy, The Source July 06 Queenstown- Engaging and uplifting live, the dDub crew propel their way seamlessly through a powerful and non-stop roots explosion. Horns, harmonies, and hands-high dDub tunes combine to create an elevating musical experience not to be missed. dDub is a sound that festivals and venues owners have been amping to get involved with and finding impossible to ignore. Their ‘journey through genre’ attitude has produced a broad and expansive following. Below are some of the events the band has been involved with, and crowd attendance. Read more on Last.fm.
